Bethany is a grade 10 student at Cayuga Secondary School, where she is a member of the drama club, school band, student council and other school groups. She is very excited to be performing in her second PCOS production. She first appeared as the coroner in “The Wizard of Oz”. She loves singing and has performed in two shows with Opera Hamilton. As well, she is in her 6th year with the Hamilton Children’s Choir. With the choir, she has participated in many festivals and competitions, including trips to Sweden, Newfoundland, and Montreal. She has been playing the piano since she was 4 years old, and is currently working towards her grade 8 RCM exam. She has had a great time working with the cast, directors and crew of Annie over the past months. Bethany would like to thank her Mom and Dad for their ongoing support and encouragement, and many hours of driving her to various events (and to Carolyn for driving as well!) She also sends hugs and kisses to her brothers and sisters: Gemma and Owen (who are appearing on stage with her), Shasta, Silken, Theo and her new little brother who is currently living in China, but will join their family soon.

Starring Melanie Hines-LaPlante as Miss Agatha Hannigan

This is Melanie’s 6th Society production -She was the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz, and has recently taken on the position of Costume Coordinator, starting with last year “Irene”. Melanie is excited to play Miss Hannigan. She loves character roles, and says that this one is a special challenge to be mean but comedic at the same time. She has had a great time exploring the combination with the orphans and fellow cast members. With 11 years of training, Melanie has also been a dancer in most of the shows she has been in. Offstage, Melanie is a Graphic Designer/Webmaster at Grace Television Network in St. Catharines. She enjoys all things artistic including painting and jewellery making. She lives on a small farm in Stevensville with her husband Bernie - who she met while in her first Society show Brigadoon, where he played the bagpipes. Melanie thanks her family, mom especially for all the support and encouragement through the years.

Starring Deb Albrecht as Grace Farrell

This is Deb’s debut performance with the Port Colborne Operatic Society and she is thrilled to be playing the part of Grace. Deb has always had a love for music and theatre and has performed in various productions. Her favourite role was with The Barn Playhouse, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where she played the Robin in “The Secret Garden”, Deb has travelled with the Continental Singers and the Ambassador Choir to Europe and across the United States. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Music. Deb has been privileged to direct a touring drama/musical team as well as many children’s and adult musicals including “The Promise” and “It’s Cool in the Furnace”. Currently, Deb is the Worship director at the Wainfleet Brethren in Christ Church and teaches music as a certified instructor with “Music For Young Children®”. Deb is honoured to be part of the PCOS this year and to share the stage with her two daughters, Allegra and JaymieAnn. Special thanks to her husband Tim and son Graham for their support.

The Story

In the depths of the 1930’s Depression, Annie is a fiery young orphan girl who must live in a miserable orphanage run by a tyrannical Miss Hannigan. Annie’s life changes when she is chosen to spend a short time living in the residence of the wealthy industrialist, Oliver Warbucks. She genuinely wins the hearts of the household staff and Warbucks, as they come to love this wonderful little girl. Warbucks tries to help Annie in her search for her parents by offering a reward for their discovery. However, Hannigan, with her no-good brother Rooster, and a female accomplice, plan to impersonate Annie’s long lost parents and keep the reward for themselves; putting Annie in great peril.
